Video Update: December 23, 2009

A few videos to watch while you're at home, avoiding the parents...

Carpenter Throws Saw Blade Through 2x4

I can't tell if it's fake or not... but it still looks pretty sweet.

Iron Man 2 Trailer

I can't figure out anything about the plot, other than: there appear to be two Iron men, Mickey Rourke is the villain, and Scarlet Johansson is still hot.
Good enough for me. This movie will be awesome.

Contestant Fail

She's speaking out her whole thought process, and you know there's nothing else going on in that head of hers.

Here's another video I wanted to share of a computer rendered mapping of the entire known universe.
I always find them extremely fascinating, but I still cannot begin to process how big the universe truly is.

Beelzebubs on The Sing-Off

Obviously I have to plug the music group from my dear alma mater...

Vote for the Beelzebubs on NBC's The Sing-Off!
Call: 1.877.674.6401
or visit: http://www.nbc.com/sing-off/vote/register.shtml
You can vote up to ten times per email/phone number!

And an example of their awesomeness:

Morgan Freeman

I just saw Invictus the other night.
Excellent movie. I recommend seeing it, if you were thinking about it.
You can add "Nelson Mandela" to Morgan Freeman's resume.

Numerous people have been sending this around:
Pretty cool, but I would have put: God > Pimp > etc...

(many people have sent it to me, but the original is from Maxim)

Hope the break for the Invictus trailer!

In the News: December 10, 2009

Warning: This is a long post
It's been a busy couple weeks!

I have to lead off with this:
Pee-Wee Herman comeback!

"Pee-Wee Herman's ready for a comeback -- and he's starting in Los Angeles with a stage play.

"I'm opening a big show in January -- 'The Pee-Wee Herman Show' -- based on my original stage production, but completely new and rewritten," Herman, played by creator Paul Reubens, said.

The play could lead to a national tour and maybe another Pee-Wee Herman movie, show producer Scott Sanders told CNN."

"All of the original actors from the TV show will reprise their roles for the stage play, except for Laurence Fishburne, who played Cowboy Curtis."

You read that right. Laurence Fishburne was on the Pee-Wee Herman Show.
Before there was Morphius.

 There was Cowboy Curtis.

Florida woman accused of hitting man with raw steak

"A 53-year-old was arrested after alledgedly hitting a man in the head with a raw steak. According to a Marion County Sheriff's Office report, the man told deputies Elsie Egan repeatedly hit him with the uncooked meat and slapped his face after he refused a piece of sliced bread. The man said he wanted a bread roll."

Egan denied hitting the man with the steak but did admit to slapping him, saying she did it "so that he could learn.""

So he could learn!

Jones wants to play in WNBA

Yup. That Marion Jones. (Who could tell she did steroids?)

"San Antonio Silver Stars coach Dan Hughes confirmed Monday night that Jones has been training with his assistants to possibly play in the WNBA, more than a year after the 34-year-old was released from federal prison for lying about doping."

""I thought it would be an interesting journey if I decided to do this," Jones said. "It would give me an opportunity to share my message to young people on a bigger platform; it would give me an opportunity to get a second chance."

Jones played college basketball at North Carolina, where she was the starting point guard on the Tar Heels' national championship team in 1994. She told the Times that she hopes to play in Europe this winter and in the WNBA next season."

At least according to this grandma.
(via TBT)

Cops: Woman makes threat to help boss make flight

"A South Florida woman has been charged with calling in a bomb threat to keep her boss from missing a flight. An arrest report said a 31-year-old woman was charged Thursday with making a false report of planting a bomb. Miami International Airport officials received a call and an e-mail Wednesday claiming that a bomb was on an American Airlines plane. Police searched the specified aircraft but didn't find a bomb.

Investigators tracked the e-mail to the woman's computer.

During questioning, the woman reportedly told police that her boss had been booked on the flight to Honduras, but she had caused him to be late for the flight. She thought the bomb threat would give her boss time to make it."

Not that is job dedication.
Of course, I wonder what kind of activity was involved that caused her to make her boss late...

Autocomplete Me

I can't remember who I got this site from, but props to them! The premise of the site is to post the weird, seemingly random, phrases Google suggests to us when we're typing in a search.
For example, when you start typing "Musings of"... "a Mechanical Engineer" should fill in.
Unfortunately, my site is popular enough for this to happen yet. But soon!

The autocomplete feature is pretty fascinating, it gives you a good indication of what people are interested in nowadays.

For example:

Trust me, you don't want to because, as everyone knows, they're afraid of the dark and will keep you up all night.

Unless the answer to this is 'yes'.

In which case, you should go right ahead and get yourself a Canadian midget.

Unfortunately many of these will also make you very sad to be a member of a society that asks questions like this:

And being curious, I actually looked many of them up to see if those were actual suggestions from Google.
In doing so, I found out many are book titles like this one by George Carlin.

Which takes away some of the humor, but I soon forget about that and go back to reading them in ignorant bliss.

I got a little carried away, but take a look at some more after the break!

Obama Speech: December 1, 2009

In case you missed it:

I thought it was an excellent speech. Maybe the best I've heard from him, although it may also be because for the most part, I was in agreement with most of what he said.
Some might say he was trying to appease too many people with it, but I think his choice was the most logical, balancing left/right politics, actual military needs, and citizens' concerns.
He will not send the full 40,000 troops as requested, but compromised with 30,000 and anticipates additional troops from NATO allies. Democrats against sending any troops will be disappointed, but he also implemented a timetable for withdrawal. Republicans will be upset about the timetable, but I truly believe Obama is competent enough to reassess the plan as milestones are achieved.
For example, as much as I disagreed with the "immediate" closing of Guantanamo, which obviously isn't going to plan, I like the fact that Obama is accepting the schedule slip and not rushing to meet his stated deadline. I believe he will take similar steps with Afghanistan.

Song of the Moment: Michael Bublé - Haven't Met You Yet

This is the latest single (and only so far) from Michael Bublé's latest album Crazy Love.
Not a huge fan of the song selection, but this song is great:
