Worst. Protest. Ever.

They like to compare themselves to the Arab Spring protests but most don't even know what they're protesting for, nor do they have any demands.

And I've never wanted to punch a stranger in the face more than this guy:

You'd think a couple with so many degrees would be smart enough not to buy a house they couldn't afford...
Sorry, I don't feel bad for you or your family "Robert Stephens with a PH".

Red Sox: Epic Fail

I don't think there is a better example of the term: "epic fail".

But it's ok everyone, it's not the team's fault.

It was all the injuries..

"Can you blame the injuries?

Is that the reason the Red Sox fell apart?

Well, it depends upon who you ask. Adrian Gonzalez certainly thinks so.

"Definitely injuries," he said when asked if physical ailments hurt the cause. "[Clay] Buchholz, you have Buchholz in the rotation, just that one guy. Daisuke [Matsuzaka], you have him in the rotation all year long. That’s 10 more victories. We probably win the division. [Kevin Youkilis] not having Youk in the lineup the last month.

"It’s always injuries. Any time a team that doesn’t make the playoffs and is supposed to is because of injuries. Plain and simple."

And god...

""I'm a firm believer that God has a plan and it wasn't in his plan for us to move forward," Gonzalez stated after the game.

Gonzalez continued, "God didn't have it in the cards for us."

Prius: People Person

The new Prius commercial totally freaks me out...

However the "behind the scenes" is pretty cool if you want to watch:

More updates soon, I promise.

Lots of news going around about the Netflix split... this probably sums up most people's feelings the best:

The "Web 2.0 name" part is perhaps the most accurate.

Three Pics

Nic Cage in 1870

"An eBay seller has this photograph up for the “buy it now” price of a million dollars. It looks suspiciously like the star of Raising Arizona and Leaving Las Vegas.
Original c.1870 carte de visite showing a man who looks exactly like Nick Cage. Personally, I believe it’s him and that he is some sort of walking undead / vampire, et cetera, who quickens / reinvents himself once every 75 years or so. 150 years from now, he might be a politician, the leader of a cult, or a talk show host.

This is not a trick photo, it’s an original photograph of a man who lived in Bristol, TN sometime around the Civil War."

In the News: September 19, 2011

Nothing really important to report, but here's a bunch of miscellaneous (slightly odd) stories.

Unofficial 'Angry Birds' Theme Park in China

I want to go to there.

"Fans of the hugely popular game Angry Birds can now enjoy some real-life bird-flinging at a theme park in central China.

The attraction, which is not licensed by gamemaker Rovio, opened on September 1 at Window of The World amusement park in Changsha, reports CNN Go. "It's fun because it's physically real. I can actually feel the bird shooting out," said one player (via Dailymotion).

China has made headlines recently for unabashed knockoffs of Apple Stores as well as Ikea, Disney, McDonald's and others."

Obama uncle Onyango Obama arrested for 'drink-driving'

"US President Barack Obama's uncle has been arrested on suspicion of drinking and driving, authorities have said.

Onyango Obama, 67, said he would call the White House to arrange bail, after being stopped on Friday in the US state of Massachusetts, says a police report.

A half-brother of the president's late father, he is being held without bail, subject to an immigration order.

Police said the Kenya native was arrested after driving through a stop sign and nearly hitting a police car.

Mr Obama was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield the right of way."

"According to the report, when taken to a police station and asked whether he wanted to make a telephone call to arrange bail, Mr Obama said: "I think I will call the White House.""

Belated Comics

Hi all, sorry about the lack of posts lately.
I've been away on business the past couple days and I've just started taking classes again.

And... I've been procrastinating.

Which is why this comic is highly relevant!

Still very true....
Especially with work email.

I've definitely just thrown out the whole container on several occasions.

Bentley Bus Fire

Apparently there was a fire on a Bentley shuttle bus recently.

The 'Assistant Dean and Director of Graduate Student and Academic Services' then sent this email out:
Dear Students,

We had a fire on one of our Bentley Shuttles going to Harvard Square on Wednesday evening. I am so thankful no one was harmed and that everyone got off the bus quickly. We have never had an incident like this and I want to assure you it is safe to continue riding our shuttles to and from campus.

Although no one was physically hurt, I do know that this kind of experience can shake your mind for a period of time. If you need to talk with someone about this experience, please come and visit us in 295 LaCava.
Not to belittle what I'm sure was a somewhat tense situation, but I would hope a bus fire, in which no one was injured, wouldn't be enough to emotionally rattle a graduate student.

Coddle much?

Go Falcons!

Update Again

Look How Much You'll Get Slammed If Congress Doesn't Extend The Payroll Tax Cut
Now couldn't we all do with lower taxes?
At the end of last year, Obama and the GOP agreed to payroll tax cut that's due to expire at the end of the year.

In his jobs speech tomorrow night, a further extension of the cut will certainly be part of the President's offering.

But the GOP isn't likely to give in too easily on that, and if the two sides can't come to an agreement, you're going to get slammed.

The Center On Budget And Policy Priorities (via Cullen Roche) has produced a simple paper on the economics of the payroll tax cut, with a handy chart on how much it would mean to you.
